During the period 2006-2010 have been reported 58 cases of Bovine Ocular Neoplasia (BON) in farms of Tirana and Lushnja district. Bovine ocular neoplasia (BON) includes a variety of benign and malignant skin tumors of the eyeball and eyelids. In this study BON has been studied in relationship with breed, environment, time to exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun, heritability, age, sex, high level of nutrition and the relationship with Infectious Bovine Keratoconjunctivitis (pink eye). The aim of this study was to describe the incidence of BON in relationship with many factors that influence the BON occurrence and also to study the frequency of BON development on different parts of the eye with differing frequencies. The most common site (71 percent) resulted the limbus, or the junction of the clear part of the eyeball (cornea) and the white part of the eyeball (sclera). Sixty-four percent occur at the junction on the outer part of the eye and 11 percent occur at the junction on the nasal side of the eye. And a small percentage developed on the eyelids, including especially the third eyelid particularly at the angle closest to the nose. Non pigmented (white) regions of the eye are more predisposed to BON because of reduced protection from ultraviolet sunlight. Growths on the cornea are less prone to metastasize than tumors on the sclera. Cattle affected with BON represent a management challenge from both an economic and animal care sidepoint. Failure to deal with cows with BON in a timely manner can result in economic loss to the owner, unnecessary suffering for the animal, and negative public perceptions.
