The wastewater treatment plant in Bileca was designed and constructed using best practice for new technologies that require smaller dimensions and use more efficient structures, performing all treatment operations in one building procedures wastewater treatment plants which are more compact, covering less surface area and operate automatically. In the Bileca plant the modern Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) technology was employed, enabling construction of a high efficiency WWTP, inducing tertiary treatment, within the smallest possible area. The plant was commissioned at the end of 2011. Testing the treated water shows excellent results. The effects are better than those required by the strictest criteria. The plant must protect the quality of the water in Bileca Lake, which is precious ecosystem that must be preserved in its oligotrophic state.
