This paper deals with the analysis of the flow field in the vicinity of an intake structure. It is shown that flow and psamological characteristics can be determined successfully by 2D and 3D numerical models. Determining the influence of measures for reducing sediment deposition inside the structure was considered as most important. One such measure, a bar located upstream of the intake mouth, proved to be the most difficult task for 2D model. For illustration, results are presented related to the water supply intake Makiš on the Sava River.
