The analysis of sediments in Jegricka canal (Serbia) has been conducted for the purposes of determining the possible impacts of various degradation processes on this protected area of nature. The concentration of dangerous and harmful substances in 20 sediment samples gathered along the stream has been determined by research. The concentration of eight trace elements (heavy metals and microelements) and sum of sixteen PAH compounds have been considered. Results have indicated that, regardless relatively big exposure to point and non-point pollutions (wastewaters from municipal and industrial sources, agriculture etc.), the quality of sediments is mostly satisfying. The only exception is the increased arsene concentration. Maximum concentration of arsene determined on some locations (for example 79.37 and 69.73 mg/kg) highly exceeds the maximum permission limits, which can have negative impacts on the environment in the stream itself and its surroundings, that represent an area of great ecological significance.
