Plant regeneration in culture of mature zygotic embryos of Allium aflatunense and A. giganteum was investigated. We established aseptic cultures growing mature zygotic embryos on MS mineral solution and plant growth regulators (in mgl-1): 2,4-Ddihydrophenoxyaceticacid (2,4-D) and kinetin or thidiazuron (TDZ). Embryogenic callus was derived from mature zygotic embryos after 4 weeks on MS medium supplemented with 2,4-D and kinetin and somatic embryos arise from surface of the embryogenic calli. Somatic embryos and bulblets were formed directly from zygotic embryos cultured on media with TDZ. Maximum somatic embryo induction and the highest number of somatic embryo per plant were obtained on MS medium containing thidiazuron. This is successful report of plant regeneration for these horticultural plants.
