The paper discusses the economic approach to drainage as a specific process in the field of water management that includes, except significant influence of natural factors, human factor. In the managing that deals with various phenomena and events, it is particularly important to provide adequate income and sources of funding that could not be obtained without the appropriate knowledge and skills of water management profession. Management of drainage acts as an integrative force and a combination of various skills, knowledge and disciplines. It is particularly important to point that so far, thanks to its skills and competence, water management profession, despite a lack of funds, managed to achieve respectable level of efficiency in field of drainage, especially of drainage of excess water from and out of soil.
