The aim of this paper is to establish and present the current state of the protected areas in southern Banat, considering the finances. The information obtained by the exercising the right to the access to the information of public importance has been analyzed. The insufficient establishment and financing of the protection and the insufficient participation of the citizens in making decisions about the nature protection are pointed out as the main problems. The fact that the local decision makers are hardly familiar with the significance of the protection and choose other priorities, and that the awareness of the great part of the public about the significance of the nature protection is not developed enough, are specified as the causes of these problems. Considering the case of the protected area Vrsac Mountains, it has been established that the protection has not been financed for three years, which is leading to the loss of the value of this landscape. Therefore, it is necessary to undertake the activities on the more efficient management and control, the advocacy and development of the influence policy and the final change of the nature protection policy.
