In the paper it is assumed that the establishment and improvement of production, processing and trade in raspberries, for a number of characteristics, which this economic activity is characterized by, contributes to reducing unemployment in rural areas, increasing income of individual farms, and thus, to some extent, affects the overall poverty reduction and economic development in rural areas of the Republic of Serbia. For the purpose of poving the assumption the existing technological, organizational and economic aspects were analyzed. Within this framework, the emphasis has been put on technology of raspberry production, demand for labor and machine work in the applied technology, as well as the most important economic parameters of production, such as cost and value of production, income and profits, employment of the population, and finally, the impact on overall economic development. In addition, the paper considers the benefits of growing raspberries, analyzes the existing problems in raspberry industry and provide some suggestions for overcoming them in order to improve the economy of rural areas of the Republic of Serbia.
