The analysis of multi-pesticides residues in soil samples is a challenging task since the target compounds usually have different physico-chemical properties, and also because the matrix itself is very complex. In order to simplify the sample preparation method and increase sample throughput, a procedure involving dispersive solid phase extraction was tested. The procedure known as QuEChERS, originally developed for the extraction of a wide range of pesticides from different food matrices, has recently been adopted for the determination of pesticides in soil. In this study the pesticides from different groups: benzimidazole fungicide, urea herbicide, dithiocarbamate fungicide and phenoxyalcanoic acid herbicide, were extracted from soil samples using two QuEChERS buffered extraction methods (AOAC 2007.1 and EN 15662). The analysis of extracted pesticides was done by ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry with heated electrospray ionization (UHPLC-HESI-MS/MS). The linearity of the analytical method was checked with the matrix-matched calibration in the range from 0.001 to 0.7 micro g/ml, method limits of detection and limits of quantification ranged from 4 to 30 ng/g and from 16 to 100 ng/g, respectively. The recoveries ranged from 11.77 to 105.33 % for the AOAC extraction method and from 14.55 to 89.32% for the EN method.
