The priorities of the Rural Development Programme of the Slovak Republic 2007-2013 concerning the improvement of rural life quality and rural settlement sustainability include the support for creation of new job opportunities, diversification of economic activities and renewal and development of rural infrastructure. These goals are reflected in the measures included under Measure 3.4 Village renewal and development, development of amenities and services consisting of Measure 3.4.1 Basic services for the rural inhabitants and Measure 3.4.2 Village renewal and development. Rural settlements which are not included in the growth poles and are eligible under the Convergence Objective are considered to be eligible applicants for both measures examined. The paper aims to inspect measures included in Measure 3.4 Village renewal and development, development of amenities and services of the Rural Development Programme of the Slovak Republic 2007 - 2013 from the viewpoint of regional structure and financial allocation according to the administrative units at NUTS III level. Furthermore, it aims to investigate and evaluate the opinions of the applicants concerning the transparency of the application assessment process.
