The impact of heavy metals released by human activities, such as industry and traffic, on the environment and on ecosystems has long been the subject of numerous studies. Contamination of food chain with risk metals may negatively influence both the health status and animal production. Unfavourable effects on the animal health may depend on the kind of element and its dose as well as on the utility orientation. Soil, air and water analyses alone are inadequate for the assessment of the availability and potential toxicity of contaminants to humans and wildlife. In this scientific monograph these significant results were achieved: Concentration of selected metals in human fluids; Toxic and biogenic elements in human teeth; In vitro toxicity of heavy metals on spermatozoa motility and cell membrane integrity; Essential trace elements and ovarian physiology; Multigenerational life-time exposure with low doses of cadmium on selected reproduction parameters in rats; Lifetime low level exposure to cadmium during three generations of rats: Difficulties and outcomes; The impact of lead on the antioxidant status and morphological characteristics of rabbit embryos; Bendiocarb effect on some structures of the lymphatic system; Application of a yeast-based assay protocol in monitoring estrogenic and antiestrogenic activity in food; Carotenoids and body defence in accordance with experiences on poultry.
