Venezuela - Environmental Management and Cartography Project
Frankel, Jeffrey | Schmukler, Sergio | Serven, Luis
The Environmental Management and Cartography Project strengthens environmental management in Venezuela to contribute to the country's sustainable socio-economic development. There are three components. The first has four sub-components: They (1) modernize the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARNR), improving environmental impact assessments (EIAs); and fund equipment, training, operating expenses, and an EIA tracking system, as well as fund conversion to a national reference laboratory, an environment technology department, and a water quality monitoring program; (2) strengthen the regulatory and legal framework, and the national enforcement program with equipment, training, and consultants; (3) implement an improved process integrating socio-economic and environmental planning, finance the preparation of the national environmental action plan and fund the environmental content of school curricula and public awareness; and (4) reorganize MARNR and modernize some administrative processes. The second component, a pilot program, facilitates decentralized environmental management. Component three modernizes cartography by converting to digital technology, and funds needed equipment, consultants, and training.
