Working women in Latin America : participation, pay and public policy
Winter, Carolyn
This document summarizes a recent World Bank study called, "Gender Discrimination in the Labor Market and the Role of the Law: Experiences in Six Latin American Countries." It reviews the trends of women's participation in the labor market and their remuneration in six Latin America nations (Chile, Honduras, Colombia, Venezuela, Costa Rica, and Brazil). The author utilizes employment and income information to draw conclusions and make observations about discrimination against women in the labor market, their rate of employment and income distribution. The report ends by making recommendations and drawing a plan of action to promote women's participation in the labor force.
