New opportunities for development : the Desertification Convention
Wolfensohn, James
The report reviews the particular features of desertification, and outlines the initial lessons derived from the experience to date, in tackling desertification problems, which formed the basis for the unique scope, and content of the Desertification Convention. It further summarizes the current lending effort of the Bank, addressing desertification, and dryland management. The report finally closes by reviewing the ongoing efforts of the Bank to mainstream these efforts into its overall activities, and the efforts of both the Bank, and the Global Environmental Facility (GEF), to increase, and improve the focus of global aspects of land degradation in general, and desertification in particular, outlining the medium-term strategy which the organizations propose to pursue.
