Armenia - Enterprise Incubator (LIL) Project
Arcadis Euroconsult
Under the Second Ta'iz Municipal Development and Flood Protection Project, extensions will be made to selected existing structures of channel systems that were built in Phase I, a new wadi will be included in the program, and street drainage will be improved. Sediment will continue to erode from the catchment and enter the channel system. To prevent such risk, the existing sediment traps will be modified to intercept larger materials but also allow finer sediment to pass through the channel system to reduce the risks of damaging the flood protection structure. Roads should be built as an integral part of the drainage on the mountain. The lack of understanding of the relationship between rainfall and channel discharges will be directly addressed by a catchment study. The study will also provide data to predict the behavior of the flood channel system under extreme conditions. Building roads along some of the new channels will allow waste bins be strategically placed to reduce the risk of solid waste getting into the wadis. A monitoring system will be set up to define the current baseline conditions in the upper floodplain, the reservoir, and the spillway, and keep track of on any changes that occur after major floods occur. Potential impacts of the Project on public health will be formally addressed in a Health Impact Assessment
