Study on phytoplankton in intensive shrimp ponds at Soc Trang and Bac Lieu provinces

At present sea products have an important role in the Vietnamese market economy. However, the aquaculture is facing on a serious pollution where the eutrophication of water in the intensive shrimp (P. monodon) farming is a rather typical phenomenon. In these conditions, the intensive phytoplankton growth may lead to 'the water bloom'. Phytoplankton is an important and sensitive group, in many cases being indicators for water eutrophication. The report showed occurrence of 5 microalgal phylas like Chlorophyta, Cyanobacteriophyta, Dianophyta, Euglennophyta and Dinoflagellates in the investigated shrimp ponds at Soc Trang and Bac Lieu provinces. The obtained results also indicated no high phytoplanktonic density, having been in range of 1,403 cells/L and 121,792 cells/L. A special attention also is paid on 1 Cyanobacterial strain of Geitlerinema cf. lemmermannii and other strain of Din flagellates - Gymnodinium sp.
