The document is a pre-feasibility study on the establishment of a slaughter and meat plant facility for Suriname, requested by the government. IICA prepared and financed the study. The main purpose of the executing this project is to collaborate with Suriname, improving the standards of management of meat and meat products, to be able to respond to the potential growth of its livestock production and comply with requirements for the export market. The table of contents refers to: livestock production; facilities for slaughter of cattle, buffalo, small ruminants and pigs; description of chillroom, cutting, and packaging; technical cooperation; financial and economical analysis of the project; and profit and loss accounts, among others. There are 7 annexes: Statistical overview, traditional abattoir of USDA design, alternative sites, list of persons interviewed, meat cutting methods, technical information, and fax. (MIBA)
