The present investigation became possible as a result of the temperature decrease to minus 4,4о С during the night of 26 to 27 March 2008. The observation was carried out in an experimental plantation of micropropagated trees grown on own roots of the cultivars Cacaks Beauty and Pacific Prunus domestica L., Santa Rosa and Black Star Prunus salicina Lind. and traditionally produced trees of the same cultivars grafted on Dzhanka 4 rootstock. The temperature decrease coincided with the phenological stage of full bloom in Santa Rosa and Black Star and the beginning of flowering in Cacaks Beauty. The trees of Pacific cultivar were in the stage of visible petals white button. The aim of the study was to establish the response of the flower organs of the own-rooted trees produced in vitro, under the conditions of extremely low temperatures. The trees of the cultivars Cacaks Beauty, Pacific, Santa Rosa and Black Star produced by micropropagation and grown on own roots, showed different degree of resistance to low temperatures at the stage of flower bud opening. The greatest damages were reported in the micropropagated trees of Santa Rosa cultivar – the number of the injured flowers was twice bigger than those of the control trees. The in vitro produced trees of Cacaks Beauty cultivar were less affected compared to both, the control variant and all the other cultivars, and the percentage of the frost-damaged flowers was the lowest in that cultivar.
