In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there were presented results of the study on the effect of nitrogen fertilizers on yield and grain quality of malting barley (Hordeum vulgare) of different varieties (Brovar; Taler; Silfid; Ksandu). It is established that the grain yield and influence of nitrogen fertilizers on that index were largely dependent on weather conditions prevailing during the growing season. The protein content in barley grain and grain size were largely determined by weather conditions not by the use of nitrogen fertilizers. Ability to germination of barley grain was not significantly dependent on the varietal characteristics of the crop and the use of nitrogen fertilizers. In the favourable vegetation conditions in case of barley growing without nitrogen the grain yield was within the limits of 64,8-68,2 centner/ha, and in case of application of nitrogen in dose of N60-90 increased only on 0,4-5,4 centner/ha (0,6-8,3%). Changes of extract content of malting barley under the influence of weather conditions did not exceed 0.4 - 1.5% (compared to N60) in the years of the researches, and the application of N60, led to the decrease of that index in the studied barley varieties on average by of 0.4-0.6%. As a result of the study there were presented data on influence of nitrogen fertilizers of yielding capacity of barley grain, on protein content in grain, on germination capacity of seeds, on grain fineness, and on extract content of malt.
