In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there were presented the results of a 4-year research into the methods of surface improvement of old-sown dry valley meadows according to the change of their botanical composition and productivity. The problem of improvement of fodder-producing areas for the substantial increase of their productivity, improvement of meadow grass stands quality by means of improvement of valuable fodder grasses in composition of meadow plant associations proved to be of current interest. It was established that additional sowing of legume grasses into sward proved to be the most efficient method of improvement, because on the background of full mineral fertilization the productivity of green mass was at the level of 36.81 t/ha on average during 4 years. The increase to the control variant amounted to 53.7%. Research results showed that application of nitrogen phosphor potassium compound fertilizers at the old-sown grass stands in average over 4 years promoted the lowering of percentage of miscellaneous herbs from 28.9% up to 6.6%. Yield of green mass was 22.51 t/ha, that was on 103.3% higher in comparison with control variant. The most efficient method of increasing the productivity was additional sowing of leguminous grasses into grass sod.
