Nowadays magnesium is considered to be poly-functional element of nutrition, executing structure-making role in the composition of the cells, cell membranes and ferments. It is included in composition of chlorophyll and other important compound of plants. Sod-podzolic soils of the Republic of Belarus are characterized with extremely low content of magnesium in absorbing complex of soil. Increase of magnesium content up to optimal level appears a necessary factor of agricultural crop yield increase. Definition of the optimal parameters of magnesium content in soil along with evaluation of the dependence of crop yield of green mass of maize (Zea Mais) on content of exchangeable magnesium and fertilizers in sod-podzolic light loamy soil is the main goal of the research, presented in the article. The two-year investigation of the dependence of crop yield levels of green mass of maize in model field experiment with four different levels of exchangeable magnesium content in soil is presented. It is found the positive yield response on 11-19% in the limits of Mg content 73-181 mg/kg-1 of soil. Further increase of magnesium content is soil up to 235-243 mg/kg-1 is excessive, it is followed by reduction of green mass yield on 5-95. Significant yield response to foliar spray of magnesium fertilizers is noted only on low and medium content of exchangeable magnesium in soil.
