The authors have assayed the systems of payment for standing timber used in the Republic of Belarus and suggested that statutory stumpage prices should be changed around new principles of calculations. These latter should be based on the financial return and the price of the end product from a forest site, as the reference point, and should allow for the present day conditions of timber cutting and transportation and the statutory stumpage price differentiation in relation to species, dimensions and quality of the wood raw material. Research results showed that evaluation of growing forest it was necessary to take into consideration its ecological value as well as those composites of forest stands which at the present moment are considered as wastes. The evaluation need to be realized on the rent income basis. New forest taxes, if they are scientifically grounded, should provide the profitability of forest economies and the whole forest complex.
