Post-harvest systems and agroindustrilization as a strategy to raise income of the rural poor

Most Egyptian people live in rural area.such area is characterized with a high rate of poverty which hinders efforts to develop rural areas. It's the objective of the present study to investigate the role of post harvest systems and agriculture industrialization as a inean to improve the income of the rural people. The study deals with certain points: The study of poverty level in Egypt. The study of poverty limitation in Egyptian governorates. To investigate the effects of some marketing services on farmers' incomes. The effects of rural industrialization on rural people. To define a strategy to encourage rural people to improve post-harvest systems and rural industrialization. The study contains four chapters; the first chapter reviews the theoretical framework and previous studies; while the second is concerned with the level of poverty and its limitation. The third chapter discusses the post -harvest system of garlic and grapes in Minya governorate. Production parameters of the above crops and the value added of their post-harvest systems were analyzed. The fourth chapter deals with milk processing, marketing and its value added to producers. The study referred to the importance of world efforts to improve the level of poverty in the middle east regions through improving nutrition, education, health and employment levels. The study recommends the use of some improved post-harvest systems. The study shows that the return per kg. increases to about L.E 8.14 and L.E 13.05 for exporting garlic and grapes respectively when using improved post-harvest systems. Processing milk, on the other hand, increases the return of a kg. of butter to about L.E 17.5 and to about L.E 11.5 of cream. Finally, the study recommends the importance of agricultural societies and development projects in the area of agricultural industrialization and post-harvest systems in order to improve rural farming incomes
