Biochemical studies on wheat grains treated with gastoxine fed to experimental rats

The present study was performed to evaluate the toxic effects of gastoxine pesticide and wheat grains treated with gastoxine fed to experimental rats after multiple oral administration of acceptable daily intake (ADI) is 0.004 mg/kg b.w. / day, No Observed Effect Level (NOAEL) is 0.43 mg/kg b. w. /day and 2g/Kg wheat respectively to male albino rats (200± 20g) for 4 weeks (acute study) has been investigated. The results revealed that treatment with gastoxine for 4 weeks, produced neurotoxicity, significant inhibition on acetylcholinesterase (AChE), disorders in total glutathione, elevation of urea and creatinine was noted in gastoxine at both doses-treated rats, and wheat grains trated with gastoxine fed to experimental rats, significant increase in the MDA level on wheat grains treated and untreated with gastoxine fed to experimental rats compared with control group (peanut oil), in this treatment. The level of ALT was recorded significant decrease of gastoxine (high dose) and wheat grains treated with gastoxine fed to experimental rats. No- significant differences in the total protein, albumin level, triglyceride level were recorded in gastoxine at both doses-treated rats, and wheat grains treated with gastoxine fed to experimental rats. Significant increase in the cholesterol level on gastoxine at both doses-exposed rats and wheat grains treated and untreated with gastoxine fed to experimental rats.
