Sudan food assistance transition study

This study provides an assessment of the key issues related to the impact that the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) has had on the most insecure food and nutritionally vulnerable areas and people in southern Sudan and the Three Areas - Abyei, Nuba Mountains and the Blue Nile.<br /><br />The objectives of the report are:<br /> to examine the main factors that lead to chronic and acute malnutrition to identify key factors that support and inhibit food availability and access to determine appropriate food and non-food interventions to address food insecurity The study was undertaken by three teams composed of USAID/ Food for the Poor (FFP) and the Technical Assistance to Non-Governmental Organisations (TANGO), which visited the respective areas and consulted with a diverse range of stakeholders. <br /><br />The publication examines current activities and proposes possible steps to address food security through the development of an integrated food security strategy that emphasizes the multiple transitions taking place in the areas of livelihoods, education, health, nutrition, institutions and security. <br /><br />Some of the main recommendations made by the authors include:<br /> humanitarian resources and development assistance should be coordinated around the same strategic objectives different contexts will require different transition approaches in development relief the government’s capacity for disaster response needs to be strengthened interventions should have a major focus on women the youth should be engaged in programme activities
