An investigation of steel industrial kiln dust effects on chemical properties of acid soil.

Steel plant by-products are suitable source liming of material and can be used to ameliorate acid soil. In the present study, the possibility of using steel plant by-products (Steel industrial kiln dust) as an amendment material for acid soil, was investigated. An incubation experiment followed by a pot experiment was carried out on a9id soil. Treatments in incubation experiment were 0, 0.25, 1,2,4 and 8 percent of kiln dust mixed with soils. In pot experiment, pots were planted with Sorghum seed (var, Kimia). Results showed that kiln dust increased significantly the value of pH, ECe, Ca, Mg, K, Na, PBS, Zn, Cu, Cd and Pb in proportional to the rate of kiln dust used. Application of kiln dust decreased significantly available Fe and Mn proportional to the rate of kiln dust used. But the availability of Fe generally increased with the incubation time. Application of kiln dust slightly increased availability of P. Result of pot experiment showed that the highest yield of sorghum was obtained by 1% kiln dust treatment, with a pH of 6.8.
