Potato production in Serbia satisfies domestic demand, while the extremely fruitful years, and significant appearing market surplus. Serbia occasionally appears as a significant exporter of potatoes, and the exports to the countries of the region, but also in the Russian federation. In some Serbia’s regions such as: Leskovac, Trstenik, Zablace, Opovo, Futog and Subotica have traditionally represented an early potato production due to favorable climatic and soil conditions. The Russian Federation is the second producer of potatoes in the world, but it is also the largest importer of potatoes. A significant amount of young potato is imported into Russia during the January-July, mostly from Egypt, Pakistan, France and Israel. Serbia has the potential to end of May to early July, this market sells a significant amount of early potato. Serbia has exported to Russia in 2011 year 4318 tons of early potatoes. One of the biggest barriers for early potato export to Russia is the price of the truck transport, which increases the price of about 0.20 Euros/kg, what may be particularly stimulating to domestic producers of potatoes, a trend exceptional growth in sales prices of potatoes on the Russian market in the period 2001-2011 year. In order to ensure the earliest due date early potato market should apply all the necessary cultural practices that will speed it up.
