Alfalfa is the most important forage crop in Serbia. It is grown because of high forage yields with excellent quality. A study was carried out in the region of Kraljevo in order to extent growing area and to determine the effects of liming and manure application on yield stability and longevity of alfalfa grown on acid soils. Results clearly demonstrate possibility for growing alfalfa on pseudogley soils in Serbia. Application of 2.5 t/ha and 5.0 t/ha of lime with 30.0 t/ha of manure on pseudogley increase level of pH value of soil, content of humus, available phosphorus and potassium content and decrease content of mobile aluminum, which gives opportunity for the growing and achieving high yields of alfalfa (115.9 t/ha), during period of utilization (3-4 years).
