Calibration of the agroecological simulation model DAISY was based on experimental results from the Experimental station in Most near Bratislava. Crop modules of spring barley (Hordeum vulgare subsp. distichon L.), winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), maize (Zea mays L.) and sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) were calibrated. Experimental data from the years 1981 -1987 were used for calibration. Validation was done on the experimental data from the field experiments carried out during the years 1999-2002. Simulated crop yields of spring barley, winter wheat; maize and sugar beet were validated also using the crop yield data from the field stationary experiment from the period 1973 - 2006. Evaluation of agreement between simulated and observed data was done using statistical tools. Root mean square error and normalised root mean square error were calculated as objective measures. Comparisons of measured and simulated dry matter production, crop nitrogen uptake and soil inorganic nitrogen content showed that the overall performance of the model under Slovak conditions is satisfactory.
