Chinese.

In this study non-choice and dual-choice trials were conducted in the laboratory by measuring food consumption of leaves clipped from the wheat cultured in incubators under either ambient (390 μL・L. 1 ) or elevated (780 μL・L. 1) CO2. To evaluate cumulative effects of elevated CO2 on larval survival, the 7th generation under elevated CO2 was observed in larval survival, activity of protection enzymes, and energy storage. The L3 and L4 worms showed obvious selection for wheat leaves from the ambient CO2 as compared to those from the elevated CO2 ,with increasing leaf consumption by 26.7% and 30.3% (non-choice) or as much as 4.2 and 1.6 times(dual-choice) , respectively. But the L6 did not exhibit the choice. The survival from larva hatching to pupation in the 7th generation was lower for the larvae fed on wheat from the elevated CO2 treatment than on wheat from the ambient CO2. There were, however, no significant differences in activity of protection enzymes and protein contents examined between CO2 treatments. The elevated CO2 reduced triglyceride content and body weight but increased water content, in adults of the 7th generation. Glycogen and muscle, however, were not significantly influenced by elevated CO2 treatment. The results of this study suggested that elevated CO2 has negative effects on larval survival and energy storage of Mythimna separata(Walker).
