Choix individuel et sécurisation collective. Formes de salariat dans les exploitations pastorales du Sahel sénégalais (Ferlo)

French. L’organisation du travail au Ferlo s’ouvre ausalariat, confirmant la monétarisation des économies pastorales sahéliennes. Aujourd’hui, 25% desexploitations pastorales du Ferlo recourent au salariat pour différents motifs : nécessités de la gestion dela production en général et des petits ruminants en particulier, statut social des éleveurs etamélioration des conditions de vie. En retour, le salariat améliore les revenus des campements, atténue les risquesde conflits, aide les salariés à se constituer leur propre cheptel, et contribue à la durabilité dumode de vie et de production des sociétés pastorales. Choix individuel au départ, le salariat aboutit à lasécurisation du collectif d’élevage, sans pour autant bouleverser les cadres sociaux du travail. Cependantde profondes différences existent entre les types desalariés.

English. The organization of farm management in Ferlo opens with wage labour, confirming the monetisation of the Sahelian system of transhumance. Today, 25% of the pastoral exploitations of Ferlo resort to wage-labour for various reasons: needs for the production management in general and small ruminant in particular, social status of the stockbreeders and improvement of the living conditions. In return, thewage-labour improves the incomes of the encampments, attenuates the risks of conflicts, helps the employees to constitute their own livestock, and contributes to the durability of the way of life and the production of the pastoral societies. Individual choice at the beginning, the wage-labour leads to the collective protection of the exploitations, but does not erase social pattern of production. Thereforemany differences remain between types.
