English. A sex-linked mendelian factor issued from the dwarf Ardennais breed, probably identical with dwB, has been marked by the linked S (Silver) allele, and compared with the Dw+ gene coming from a Rhode-Island strain and marked by the s+ (gold) allele. The comparison included 42 pairs of full or half-sisters (S vs s+). Body and mean egg weight at 10 months of age, food intake and egg mass on two 28 d. periods between 8 and 10 months age, were recorded. For Silver hens 10 months body weight was about 13 p. 100 lower, mean egg weight 4 p. 100 lower and food consumption more than 6 p. 100 lower as compared to their gold sibs. Egg mass produced was not reduced. This suggests a possible interest of this factor for obtaining laying hens with improved food efficiency.
