Complementary investigation on the Efficacy of Herbicide Penoxsulam 240 SC in Rice Field

This field experiment was conducted at in 2010 to evaluate the efficacy of Penoxsulan SC 240 as a new herbicide compared with registered herbicides in Iran. Penoxsulam at 24, 30, 36 and 42 g ha-1 was compared with tank mix application of butachlor plus cinosulfuron at 900+20 g ha-1, butachlor plus bensulfuron at 100+45 g ha-1 and mixture of anylofus and ethoxysulfuron (Sunrise Plus) at 945 g ha-1 and twice hand weeding, for controlling barnyard grass, sedge and broadleaf weeds. All herbicides were used as droplet application seven days after rice transplanting. All treatments significantly reduced number and dry weight of barnyard grass plants. The number and dry weight of this grass weed in treatment penoxulam at 30 and 42 g ha-1 was less than others, how ever, these were not significantly differ from other treatments. All herbicides, compared with weedy check, significantly reduced the number of Scirpus maritimus. But, the lowest number of the recent sedge weed was obtained from application of bensulfuron-methyl+butachlor which was similar to twice hand weeding and better than the other treatment. The mean number of Paspalum disticum in treatment penoxulam at 30 g ha-1, similar to twice hand weeding, was less than other herbicide treatments, but was not significantly different from penoxulam at 30 g ha-1 and butachlor plus cinosulfuron. All treatments completely controlled Alisma plantago-aquatica. Among all herbicides used in this research, only bensulfuron-methyl+butachlor caused some mild phytotoxicity. Non of treatments, compared with weedy check, had significant effect on rice plant height. All herbicides, compared with weedy check, significantly increased the rice grain yield.
