One of the most important environmental parameters on predicting growth models of crop plant is sun radiation. Radiation absorbance and radiation use efficiency depend on field management conditions. This study was done in Kamal-abad Research Station during 2006 - 2007. The aim was to determine the effects of seed planting date and irrigation period on radiation absorbance and use efficiency of sugar beet. The field experimental layout was strip plot in randomized complete block design with 3 replications. The main plot was the three levels of seed planting date. In the first year of experiment seeds were planted in 14th April, May and June and in the second year, seeds were planted 23th April, May and June. The sub-plot was three levels of irrigation periods including 80, 120 and 160 mm evaporation from class A. evaporation pan During the growth period, leaf bald, petiole, root crown and root sample were taken every two weeks interval to determine the dry weight. Sun radiation was measured with Sunscan in two week intervals. Results showed that seed planting date had significant effects on root yield and sugar yield. The highest and lowest root yields were obtained from first and last seed planting dates, respectively. Seed planting date had no significant effect on quality factors including sugar content., Na, and N content. Results showed that radiation absorbance efficiency had good relationships with root yield and sugar yield. In other words, although the third seed planting date had the highest radiation use efficiency but had the lowest root yield and sugar yield. Irrigation periods had no significant effect on the factors studied.
