Study of Seed-borne Mycoflora of Hybrid Corn Seed

Moghan has an excellent potential for corn seed production due to pedology, climate, water supply and skilled producers. It produces about 95% of corn seed needs for the country. However plant pathogens and pests and specially seed borne pathogens have been big challenges. On the basis of article no. 4 of PVR, Seed and Plant Certification, Seed Health Laboratory studied seed borne pathogens on 100 corn seed samples, representating 1500 metric tones, produced in Moghan in 2003-2004. The accredited ISTA rules were used to study the seed borne fungi and the following fungi were detected. Ustilago maydis (9/7 spore/kg of seed), Sphacelotheca reiliana (0.1 spore/kg of seed), Acremonium strictum (0.25 %) Exserohilum tauricum (0.01 %), Nigrospora oryzae (0.75 %), Aspergillus flavus (3.2 %), Aspergillus niger (9.9%), Aspergillus sp. (6%), Penicillium spp. (12.15%), Fusarium verticilloides (15.9%), F. proliferatum (9.5%), F. subglutinans (5.6%)
