Study on possibility of current commercial potato minituber production system replacement with hydroponic system

More than 15 companies are producing potato minituber in Iran now, which all of them transfer subcultured plantlets to soil or peat moss in greenhouse. With the respect to many disadvantages that these two substrates have such as low multiplication rate, impossibility of nutritional management, possibility of inoculation with fungal and bacterial pathogens and _ , we conduct this project to evaluate the possibility of designing and administrating a hydroponic system to producing potato minitubers. The substrate used in hydroponic system was aborigine, cheap and accessible, and its nutritional management is possible. To compare this systems efficiency with old commercial system in which peat moss used as substrate, this project was conducted as factorial design with complete randomized block design in Tose Tejarat Savin Co greenhouse, in which two factors (1. Cultivar; Agria & Sante, 2.Planting method; Peat moss+Perlit & Sand + Perlit) were studied in 4 replications. Finally this new method could reduce production costs interestingly, and could increase multiplication rate in Sante cultivar for more than 104 percent and in Agria cultivar for more than 34 percent. So the first cultivar (Sante) had 879 sized minitubers in each plot that was significantly more than multiplication rate in old commercial method in peat moss (431 minitubers in each plot). In Agria that is one of the cultivars with low multiplication rate, the number of produced minituber in each plot of hydroponic system was 534, that was 33 percent more than old commercial method in peat moss (410 sized minituber in each plot)
