The effect of N, B and Zn foliar application on fruit set, leaf and fruit mineral concentration in almond(cv. Mamaie)

This investigation was carried out to study the effects of B, Zn and N foliar application on yield and plant taking up of these elements in Almond. Experiment had three factors: B as boric acid in three levels (0, 0.2, 0.4 percent), Zn as zinc sulfate in three levels (0, 0.5 and 1 percent) and N as urea in two levels (0, 0.5 percent). Treatments applied tow times (1. after the end of shoot growth in autumn 2. in spiring before antesis at flower bud green tip stage). Results show that Zinc sulfate at 0.5% concentration increased fruit set and yield at 1% level. Urea and Boric acid effects didn't show any significant effect on fruit set although Boric acid increased yield significantly(at 5% level). The effects of Boron and Zinc interaction increased fruit set at 1% level. The effect of year on fruit set, yield and the other evaluated characters showed significant effects. The year and foliar spray interaction on fruit set and yield didn't significant effects. Leaf analysis one week after treatment showed that Zn and B content in leaf were increased significantly, but leaf N content didn't show any significant difference between treatments. Spring analysis showed significant increase in flower N and B content in treatments due to urea and Boric acid application. The concentration of N, P, K, Zn and B in fruitlet, kernels and leaves (in mid-summer) had no significant difference in treatments.
