Effect of Soil Amendment on Soil Chemical Properties in Rudasht

Increasing salinity of irrigation water is usually associated with increasing Sodium content of irrigation water which may lead to increase soil exchangeable Sodium. For reduction of 3 meq exchangeable sodium per 100 gr soil, the effect of three soil amendments including, sulfuric acid, gypsum, sulfur and control (without soil amendment) as the subplot and four water qualities of 2, 4, 6 and 8 dS/m as the main plot, in a split plot arrangement in four replicates on alfalfa hay yield and soil chemical properties were studied. The effect of soil amendments were not and water salinity treatments were significant on yield at .5% level, respectively. Application of soil amendments increased yield and sulfuric acid resulted in the highest hay yield increase of 6, 10 and 10 ton/ha respect to control for irrigation water salinity of 4, 6, and 8 dS/m, respectively. Gypsum application decreased Phosphoric in alfalfa hay due to increase of Ca and precipitation of phosphors in soil and was significantly different from other treatment at 5% level. Sulfuric acid application increased Pbosp-, tus in alfalfa hay due to locally decreasing soil pH. The effect of soil amendment were not significant on N, Na and K alfalfa hay content. The effect of irrigation water, on Electrical conductivity, exchangeable sodium percent, soil cations and anions, of soil saturated extract were significant at 5% level but, the effect of soil amendment were not significant. Irrigating according to 80% of class A pan evaporation increased salt throughout the soil profile and lead to insignificant effect of soil amendment on soil 'chemical properties.
