Effects of Different Drying Methods on Essential Oil Content of Rosa damascene and Producing of Its Processed Product

Rosa damascena production is an important part of revenue sources of Kashan producers. Therefore, many traditional workshops and industries are involved in this area. Drying and conservation of medicinal and essential oil plants for preserving the active substances, color, odor and taste is applied for three specific aims; l-inhibition of microorganism, enzyme, and chemical reaction activities and consequently keeping constant the chemical composition of the plant. 2-Better marketing for using as a medicinal application.3- For milling, resulting to a higher contact surface with solvent leading to a better extraction of essential oil. Drying is an adequate method for preserving the essential oil when there is a long period of time between harvesting and transformation. Different drying methods were applied on Rosa damascena in three regions of kashan (Barzook, Vidoja, Quamsar), using a randomized completely block design with three replications. Petales were dried by traditional method (in shadow at ambient temperature) and industrial methods (fluidized bed drying at 300e and 45°C). Only the method of drying had significant impact on essential oil content of dried petals (0.=0.01). The petals dried by traditional method (in shadow) at ambient temperature contained more essential oil than those dried in industrial methods.
