Effect of irrigation interval on superior poplar clones yeild

Poplar clones have different needs and requirements for growth. Water volume and irrigation periods affect on growth characteristics. Considering the limitation of water resources in the most regions of the Iran, currently irrigation periods instead of water volum uses in traditional and industrial poplar plantations. Therefore investigation of qualitative and quantitative growth of poplar clones in different irrigation regimes for determine of most suitable irrigation period is necessary. This study was conducted based on three periods of irrigation 4, 8 and 12 days (with the similar water volume and irrigation period). Nine high production poplar clones selected in split plot design with three replications in Karadj Research Station. Nine rooted cuttings of poplar planted in 3x 3 spacing for every plot. All trees growing under similar water volume and irrigation period for first growth year. Irrigation treatments started in second growth year. Water volume input measured by installing of Flume model "WSC type 3". Height of Flume basal area and water moved from Flume calculated using the standard curve for each Flume water input. Growth characteristics such as, diameter at breast height (dbh), total height, trunk height, crown size, tree size and morphology and phenology measured in the end of growth season. The results showed that growth of diameter, height and volume for 12 days treatment had significant differences (P0.05) than 4 and 8 days. Also there are no significant differences between 4 and 8 days treatments. In the 4 days treatment annually 7500 m3 more water volume consumed than 8 days treatment. The lower wood Production was for 12 days treatment. Also P.n.62/154, P.eura.561/41, P.eura.vernirubensis had highest growth of diameter, height and volume for 4 and 8 days treatments .
