In order to access the appropriate methods of inventory in Zagros forests, it is necessary to try different methods out. In this study, two different method of inventory including: transect sampling method with sample line of fixed tree number and systematic sampling method with circular sample plot (usual sampling method in west oak forests) were compared, regarding to the cost and precision. A part of Qalaje forest in Kermanshah province was selected and then a 100 Ã_ 625m systematic random grid was designed. Two mentioned methods of inventories were applied based on this grid. Forest density and crown coverage were recorded in 40 circular sample plots and 40 transects. T- Test was applied to compare the means of recorded factors. The results showed that there was no significant difference between two methods at the level of α=0/05. Therefore according to the lower cost of inventory in transect method, this method is more appropriate method of inventory in this forest, and it is recommended for the Zagros forests.
