When including fodder roots in the ration of farm animals problems arise with respect to the growing, harvesting, storage and preparing the roots for feeding. Fodder root cleaning from mud is obligatory and one of difficult operations before feeding animals and also when fodder roots are used as components for combined silo. From the ecological point of view the cleaning of fodder roots by dry (waterless) method is more advantageously, as the necessity falls off for cleaning the spent water and the possibility appears to return the removed soil residues back onto the fields. For substantiating the basic parameters of corrugated brush drum cleaner it is important to know the coefficients of friction-sliding of rest and motion of muddy and clean roots on the working surfaces. We worked out a methodology for determining the coefficients of friction-sliding of the roots with the use of a tribometer device.
