Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) is well-known local herb used as traditional medicine. Commercial planting of Eurycoma longifolia was given attention in Malaysia due to the high demand of this medicinal herb for both domestic and export market. Using the true-to-type species of Eurycoma longifolia through understanding the plant morphology is important to ensure only the right type is planted in the field. Experience from field planting showed that the plant growth is not uniform, due to seeds collected from wild Tongkat Ali. The vigorous plant reached 287 cm in height with 3.7 cm of stem diameter after 17 months of field planting. Flowering was also observed as early as 13-15 months after field planting. The "Tiger worm" was the major pest found attacking the new shoot but could be easily controlled by selective spraying with synthethic pyretroid. Stem collar disease was detected recently with sudden die-off of infected plants in ashort time without any early symptom.
