This study was conducted to determine the response of two upland rice varieties, Pinilisa and Palawan Red to different fertilizer management under banana-based cropping system. It was laid out following the factorial in Randomized Complete Block Design, where variety served as Factor A (V1-Pinilisa and V2-Palawan Red) and fertilizer management as Factor B (F0-control, F1-Farmer's Practice, F2-Nutrition Farming Systems, and F3-Recommended Rate based on soil analysis) with three replications. The height of the upland rice at 100 DAS is significantly affected by fertilization protocol. It appears that application of 14-14-14 and 46-0-0 (farmers' practice) and following nutrition farming system will produce taller plants at 100 DAS. Variety has a highly significant effect on the number of productive tillers, while a significant effect of fertilization protocol was also established. Factor A (variety) also affects the number of unproductive tillers, number of filled grains, and grain yield (t/ha), while, a highly significant effect was noted on number of productive tillers, length of panicle, number of unfilled grains, 1000-seed weight and straw yield (t/ha). Factor B (Fertilization Protocol) has a significant effect on the straw yield of upland rice. Results seem to imply that variety independently influence the number of productive tillers, number of unproductive tiller, length of panicle, number of filled grains, grain yield, 1000 seed-weight and straw yield, while fertilization protocol considerably influences the number of productive tiller, grain yield and straw yield. This suggests that the effect of variety is not influenced by the type of fertilization protocol used.
