Effects of different organic and inorganic fertilizers in rose (Rosa cv.)

This study was conducted in the ornamental garden bank of West Visayas State University to determine the size of flower and length of stalk of rose flowers and also to find out the cost and return of each treatments. The treatments used were: A, control (alternate foliar spray of 15-15-30+ ME at the rate of 1.5 g/l of water every 15 days); B, A + ring application of 60 g chicken dung every 45 days; C, A + ring application of 60 g hog manure every 45 days; and D, A + 1/2 B + 1/2 C every 45 days. The experiment was laid in RCBD replicated four times with 10 potted plants per replicate. Results indicated that foliar spray plus the application of 14-14-14, chicken dung and hog manure in the soil every 15 days, singly or in combination significantly produced more quality flowers than those that received foliar spray alone. Growing of roses in pots can be profitable as indicated by an ROI of 79.61, 108.67, 112.96, 131.04 and 140.07% for treatments A,C,D, and B, respectively. Based on the cost and return analysis, foliar application plus combination of 14-14-14 fertilizer, chicken dung, and hog manure showed higher net income. Therefore, treatment E which is the combination of 14-14-14 fertilizer, chicken dung, and hog manure is highly recommended for the growing of roses for flower production. Further study using different rates of commercial fertilizers farm manures, singly or in combination, may be conducted.
