The paper deals with the occurrence of the tumour disease of fibropapillomatosis of Cervidae in Slovakia with special emphasis on the roe-deer (Capreolus capreolus) and red-deer (Cervus elaphus). The very first case of fibropapillomatosis in Slovakia was documented in Senica in 1998. From the place of initial occurrence, the disease expanded to the south-east direction. During the years of 1998-2010, together 472 cases of fibropapillomatosis were evaluated. In the certain hunting grounds of Slovakia, the disease strikes 5-10% of roe-deer population and, thus, it signalizes severe management problem that needs to be cope with using special measures including intensive monitoring. The very first case of fibropapillomatosis of red-deer in Slovakia was documented in 2009. For red-deer population is a disease currently reported from 12 district of Slovakia. The diagnosis can be made by macroscopic and microscopic examination. In spite of the acceptance of its virus origin, it is necessary to point out that all aspects of etiology of fibropapillomatosis of Cervidae have not been explicitly clarified so far. The paper also completes recent knowledge of the disease distribution area within Slovakia and, moreover, it contributes to the studies of fibropapillomatosis of Cervidae in the context of the game hygiene.
