This paper analyses conditions under which the demand at the forestry contractor market is created. The objective is to evaluate recent conditions and outline the development of requirements for forestry services. It is based on the theoretical background of the nature and existence of the market with services, economy of natural resources, theory of property rights and theory of transaction costs to explain the nature of the firms and performance on the market. The paper presents a research methodology, particularly aimed at a standardised interview which was used for the demand analysis of the contractor market in the forestry sector in Slovakia. The interview results showed relations between demand and supply and helped us to define differences in structure and volume of contracted services in relation to the form of ownership.
