Mushroom Bacterial Rot of Agaricus bisporus Caused by Pseudomonas Species in Bulgaria

Mushroom diseases can be caused by bacteria from genera Pseudomonas, Burkholderia, and Janthinobacterium. The paper deals with bacterial rot of Agaricus bisporus, which was observed in Bulgaria in 2012. The symptoms included large brown to black spots of the hood and the stipe, and crumpled underlying tissues. Pathogenicity tests, major differentiating tests, BiologTM, and PCR with specific primers for the isolated bacterial strains were carried out. The strains proved to be representatives of Pseudomonas tolaasii. Mushroom bacterial rot of Agaricus bisporus caused by Pseudomonas tolaasii is described for the first time in Bulgaria.
