Soil survey is a serie of operations for recognition, determination of spatial distribution and soil classification. Soil properties were determined to interpret and to predict soil behavior under varied land uses and management. The aim of present research is to identify soil characteristics and land quality in the study area. Soils were classified based on their common properties using keys to soil taxonomy for better utilization and necessity of appropriate land use planning. Detailed soil survey of agriculture research station of Behbahan was carried out in this research. The study area covers about 64 hectares, located between 30Ί 37΄ north latitude and 50Ί 16΄ east longitude. The research was done based on geology, climatology, topography and other necessary information. The study area was interpreted based on field obsevations, soil variation and land use. In total, 6 profiles and 3 augers were dug and studied based on type of soil survey, land condition, soil surface salinity, texture and other soil properties. Soil characteristics were described based on guidelines for soil profile description (FAO, 1990 ). Data analysis was processed in ArcGIS environment. The results are presented on three types of map, including soil map, land classification and irrigability land classification maps together with final research report. Key words: ArcGIS, Behbahan station, irrigability, Land classification, Soil map, Soil survey.
