The present study was conducted in two years of 2007and 2008 at Haji Abad Agricultural Research Station to determine the best sowing date and the high-yielding variety of long fibers Barbadense cotton in Haji Abad region. This type of cotton is highly demanded by Iranian textile industries and there is a great potential for its production in the warm climate of southern part of Iran. A split plot experiment was laid out as a completely randomized block design with the sowing date ( Esfand 8 , 18 and 28) as main plot and variety (Esfand , Doctor Omoomi , Saba and 5595) as sub plot in 4 replicates. No signiflcant differences were observed in seedcotton yield between sowing dates while varieties showed significant differences in seedcotton yield (p 0.01). The var. Doctor Omoomi gave the highest yield, 3088 kg ha-1, which was significantly different from other varieties. The interaction between variety and sowing date in seedcotton yield was found significant( p0.05). The highest seedcotton yield, 3479 kg ha-1, was achieved when var. Doctor Omoomi was sowed in Esfand 28.
